Be the Change Therapeutic Modalities
Feeling comfortable and safe in your counselling session is vital, especially since Covid 19 has become a factor in our daily lives. In order to make sure you get the most from your Be the Change counselling sessions, whilst at the same time keeping you safe, I provide a range of options for how we go about them.
As we move through your counselling, you will begin to get a feel for how you prefer to meet, but you are not locked in to any one style of session. If you wish to Walk and Talk at one session, and use Zoom for another, that’s fine.
Telehealth
Telehealth Counselling Sessions simply mean I will meet and interact with you via telephone or an online platform such as Zoom or Skype.
Whilst Telehealth has become more popular in recent times due to Covid-19, it is a tried and tested method of delivering counselling. I have been running online counselling sessions for many years, and feedback from clients suggest it is just as educative, informative and interactive as face to face appointments.
The benefits of Telehealth include:
- The convenience of not having to leave your home or office, avoiding the stress of dealing with traffic and parking
- You may feel more comfortable opening up when you are in a familiar environment
- You don’t need to be within handy commuting distance of my office, and can continue your counselling sessions if you are away or in lockdown
- Since there is no commuting or waiting time, it can be easier to fit a Telehealth session into your schedule.
- Not having to wear a mask can improve non-verbal communication, and is helpful for those with hearing difficulties, language barriers, or other communication challenges
- Because you do not have to leave home you are not putting yourself or loved ones at risk of Covid-19 transmission
- By bringing your own notebook to our sessions you can keep a record of your thoughts and feelings to explore later, ensuring engagement in the process
Telehealth sessions allow continuity of support for your mental health during those times when we are unable to move about freely in the community.
Walk and Talk
Combining the benefits of fresh air and exercise with a counselling session provides you with invaluable therapeutic benefits over and above the traditional counselling session. Conducted in parkland settings near my office in the Hills District, this focussed psychological technique provides benefits through:
- Fresh air and exercise, which are well known to improve your state of mind and soothe your nervous system, helping you see your concerns more clearly
- By moving your body, helping your mind to begin moving too, allowing you to ‘unstick’ some of those persistent thoughts and patterns that may have been holding you back
- Being side by side rather than face to face, you may find it is easier to open up about painful topics
- Tuning into your senses and developing mindfulness is aided in a natural setting
- Putting some metaphorical distance between you and your problems while walking, allows you to relax and release tension
Walk and Talk sessions will also boost energy and improve the quality of your sleep.
There are a number of open parklands near my office which provide plenty of privacy for our conversations. And don’t worry about getting out of breath – as the client, you set the pace.
Park Bench Conversations
Similar to Walk and Talk, my Park Bench counselling sessions take advantage of fresh air and nature to help create a calm and relaxed atmosphere. There are several beautiful parks near my Hills District office where there are benches which provide shade and open space to allow for privacy and Covid-Safe interaction.
If the weather doesn’t want to co-operate, it’s no problem to relocate our session to Zoom, Skype or telephone.
Face to Face
Traditional face to face sessions are conducted in my relaxing comfortable, private office in the Hills District of Sydney. You are ensured total privacy in a calming and peaceful environment where you can express your concerns without judgement or fear.
Please note, you will be required to abide by NSW Health Covid-Safe guidelines, including checking-in with the Covid-Safe App, wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing. Please also be assured I adhere to all recommended Covid-19 Safe Hygiene Practices.
