I decided to be the change

For me it’s a privilege to come to work every day and sit with someone when they’re in the most vulnerable moment in their life. To walk beside my clients in those moments is a humbling experience

Jenni Lemmerman

Twenty years ago, I looked around me and saw so many women struggling with their self-esteem, feeling disconnected from support and unable to imagine a life for themselves as they moved through the different stages of their life.  I watched these women underestimating themselves and felt I had to do something about it.

In that moment I decided I wanted to be part of the change these women needed to create in their lives.  So I set out to study community services, welfare and social work and become a mental health social worker.

Over the years I have worked in a wide range of areas in social work and mental health, including running parenting groups, developing therapeutic groups in a women’s and children’s refuge, and counselling individuals, couples, and families.  I have also worked as a clinical social worker in the Children’s Oncology Ward at Westmead Children’s Hospital, and as a Clinical Supervisor and Sessional Academic at Australian Catholic University (ACU) mentoring social work students.

My Approach

As a mental health social worker, I approach all my clients without judgement, providing a supportive and safe environment where you can feel held as you move through life’s challenges.

It is my belief that we all have the ability to create change in our own lives when we have the appropriate support in place to do so.  I tailor my counselling to your individual needs and concerns using evidence-based models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), in an integrative approach aimed at identifying and building on your unique strengths and resiliency.

I take a holistic view of your well-being and am happy to incorporate complementary services where necessary.  I have a range of trusted and professional practitioners I collaborate with who can assist with naturopathy, nutrition, meditation, and a range of other services should we feel it’s appropriate.

Women’s issues, acute and complex trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, family wellbeing and parenting concerns are particular areas of interest to me.

It is my mission to support you as you step into your truth and start to become your favourite version of yourself.

Jenni Lemmerman showed a great ability to analyse my situation and support me by providing strategies and helping me develop more positive outlook.

Female client (aged 31)

Jenni supported me through my marriage breakdown and working out how to communicate with my ex about the children. Most importantly Jenni helped me open up and talk through my feelings around not seeing my kids every day.
