You have a right to feel safe in your home and your life.

 

Any relationship where one person is using threats, violence, or intimidation to control another is domestic violence.  Often this is a partner-relationship, but it may be an adult child-parent relationship, or even a sibling relationship.

 

Domestic violence can take many forms –  physical, emotional, financial, and psychological.  It is often subtle and insidious and involves coercive control. Whatever form the violence takes, the result is you will likely feel unsafe and unable to trust.

Behaviour that can be classified as Domestic Violence includes, though is not limited to:

If you are in a domestic violence situation, or have been in the past, you may feel you will never be safe.  But it is possible to reclaim your self-esteem, your sense of safety, your trust, and your wellbeing.  It is possible to create a better life.

Having worked with many women who have experienced domestic violence of all kinds, I am sensitive to your need to feel safe and supported as you share your story.  As we work together you will begin to understand the effects of this type of trauma and the multiple layers of distress you have experienced, allowing you to heal and rebuild your sense of self.
